A Walk Through the Past:
Tracing the Steps of the Johnston, Felton & Hay Families
- Hay House is proud to offer a new specialty tour. This is not just a walk through the house; it is a journey through Macon. Guests will follow the steps of the three families that made their home in this Italianate masterpiece, while discovering the vibrant history of the city itself. An orientation of information on the three families and the house itself introduces the tour. Following the orientation will be an excursion through the city to view various locations that are significant to the three families of the Hay House. Some of these sites include Christ Church, the Emerson Building, the Tracy house, Elizabeth Hay Curtis residence, Bankers Health and Life building, and many more.Guests will also have the opportunity to visit Rose Hill and Riverside cemeteries to see the grave sites of the Johnston, Tracy, and Hay families. Upon arrival back at the Hay House, all guests will be given a guided tour of the building, coupled with a Top of the House Tour. At the end of the tour, guests will also receive a guided walkthrough of the gardens and grounds surrounding Hay House.This will be our most in-depth tour yet and can be enjoyed by people of all ages! If you want to see the Hay House and learn more about the city of Macon, this tour provides a great opportunity to do so.
